The Way of the Game – 99 – Years of Unfinished Games

Dec
30

It’s our last episode in double-digits territory!  Hooray!

Sam calls in from one of the Dakota’s this week, and gets his EDF on.  This game is becoming more than just a little bit of an obsession for him.

Alex tries to share more Battlefield 3 stories, but is rudely interrupted by hand gestures from the other hosts.  He’s also broken out some classic Sonic in the form of Sonic CD, and it’s apparently aged well.

Jonathan has picked up some more tables for Pinball FX 2, and has found that his complaints last week about the Sorcerer’s Lair table were premature, and that he understand nothing about how pinball is to be played.

In our topic this week, the hosts take a look at their game shelves with the intent of tallying up how many unfinished games they have, and just how long it will likely take to get through them all.  Sam’s list is small, Alex’s list is a bit hefty, and Jonathan’s list rages out of control.

Finally, Name That Game! is back, with a belated Christmas theme.  A few of the titles are repeats, but we’re keeping track now.

The Way of the Game – 98 – Joe Takes an Arrow to the Knee

Sam was stuck on a plane during the episode recording, but the podfather joins us in his stead!  It’s well known that none of the hosts have played or plan on playing Skyrim anytime soon, so we asked Joe to join us and give us the inside scoop.  Apparently, the writing is terrible but the rest of the game is awesome.

Alex, in the meantime, has spent a ton of time dying in the Back to Karkand maps.  He’s also spent some time on the Virtue & Vengeance tables for Pinball FX 2.  Thor is apparently awesome.  Moon Knight has promise, but the ball blends too much with the black and white.

Jonathan broke out some EDF: Insect Armageddon with Sam.  Turns out beer and pretzel games work great in video as well as tabletop.  He’s also spent some time with mobile version of The Sorcerer’s Lair, a table for Pinball FX 2, and wonders why he didn’t do so sooner.

In the topics, we discuss some of the interesting news coming out of the VGAs this year.  Skyrim takes game of the year!  Bioware’s developing Command & Conquer 2!  Revengeance!  Two new zombie games coming!  Maybe those last two don’t really deserve exclamation points.

Next week, we raid our game shelves to figure out just how much time it’ll take to finish them all.

What’s Coming Out This Week? Let’s See What’s in the Box!

All right, that may not be entirely fair.  Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon comes out in two days, but really?  If I’d found a trailer that made the game look interesting, perhaps it’d be worth linking to, but I couldn’t.  Also, a new Mystery Quest for the DS!  As much as my wife loves seek-and-find games, though, I don’t think they’re worth calling out.

Seriously, Amazon has TEN items listed as coming out this week.  Perhaps next week?
